In honor of Denny Sanford’s generosity to San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and Great Plains Zoo, we are proud to announce an exclusive, reciprocal program for members of each organization!

  • Adult members of Great Plains Zoo will show a valid membership card and a valid matching state-issued photo ID indicating residency in South Dakota to gain complimentary entry to San Diego Zoo in San Diego, California, or San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, California.
  • Adult members of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance will show a valid membership card and a valid matching state-issued photo ID indicating residency in California to gain complimentary entry to Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
  • One (1) adult membership card is valid for entry for one (1) adult and up to two (2) children ages 17 and younger at the reciprocating facility.
  • Reciprocal entry only redeemable at the ticket window at:
    • San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park
    • Great Plains Zoo

Active members of the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with state-issued photo ID indicating South Dakota residency may receive complimentary entry to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park.

How many people are permitted complimentary entry to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park under the reciprocal agreement?

Each active adult membership card is valid for one single adult, ages 18+, and up to two children, ages 3–17. (Children ages 2 and under receive complimentary admission.)

How do members of the Great Plains Zoo receive complimentary admission to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park?

Members are required to show a matching valid Great Plains Zoo membership card and valid Sout Dakota state-issued photo ID or valid South Dakota driver’s license at any ticket window.

What if I do not have a valid South Dakota state-issued photo ID or valid South Dakota driver’s license?

Complimentary admission will not be granted if a matching valid South Dakota state-issued photo identification card or valid South Dakota driver’s license cannot be presented at the ticket window.

What if I am a member of the Great Plains Zoo and do not live in South Dakota?

Due to the reciprocal admission program rules, complimentary admission can only be granted to Great Plains Zoo members who also reside in South Dakota.

Do members of the Great Plains Zoo receive complimentary parking at the Safari Park?

No, parking is not included under this agreement.

Do members of the Great Plains Zoo receive a discount on food, beverages, merchandise, or tours?

No, additional discounts are not extended to members of the Great Plains Zoo.

Do members of the Great Plains Zoo receive complimentary access to the Zoo’s Guided Bus Tour and Skyfari® Aerial Tram, the Safari Park’s Africa Tram, and all regularly scheduled experiences (subject to availability)?

Yes, complimentary admission includes all the features and benefits included in a regular 1-Day Pass.

Is there an expiration date for the reciprocal agreement?

There is no defined expiration date. Final interpretation falls to the representatives of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and Great Plains Zoo.
