World Penguin Day

No snow and ice here! On the sunny shores of South Africa, the iconic African penguin stands out with its black-and-white feathers. As we get ready to celebrate World Penguin Day on April 25, they’re already dressed in their tuxedo best. These charming birds are known for more than just being charismatic—they’re an integral part of their South African ecosystem, and share their sunny shoreline and oceanic habitat with humans and other wildlife. But habitat loss, oil spills, and over-fishing all threaten their survival.

Your support puts our 106 years of expertise to work, fueling critical conservation for penguins and marine ecosystems through our Oceans conservation hub.

Join us at the San Diego Zoo on Monday, April 25, as we celebrate World Penguin Day and all you make possible for our feathered friends! With interactive experiences from wildlife care specialists and fun surprises for the whole family, this will certainly be a day to remember.
