SAN DIEGO (June 1, 2021) – San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s commitment to inspire people to become wildlife allies was emphasized this morning as San Diego Zoo officials and San Diego City Council President Pro Tem Stephen Whitburn unveiled two brand-new habitats.
SAN DIEGO (April 30, 2021) – This morning at the San Diego Zoo’s native pollinator garden, Mayor Todd Gloria (center) presented a proclamation—declaring May 1, 2021 Monarch Day in the city of San Diego—to Paul Baribault, President and Chief Executive Officer of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (left), and Paige Howorth, the McKinney Family Director of Invertebrate Care and Conservation (right). The monarch butterfly is a recognizable wildlife icon in Southern California and plays an important part in the local ecosystem as a pollinator of native plants.
SAN DIEGO (March 3, 2021) Today, on World Wildlife Day, San Diego Zoo Global is evolving into the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA), broadening integrated approaches to protecting and conserving wildlife around the globe, an all-new brand identity which emphasizes the health of wildlife, people, and the environment are interconnected and linked to the health of our planet.
Teams of biologists and community scientists supported by the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation and San Diego Zoo Global are again sounding the alarm for the bright orange butterflies that are iconic images of Coastal California.
After being closed to guests since mid-March, San Diego Zoo Global has announced that the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park will reopen to the general public on Saturday, June 20th., ending the first major closure in the conservation organization’s 103-year history.
A koala moved quickly out of a caretaker’s arms and up into a tall eucalyptus tree, while wildlife care specialists looked on. This koala is a member of an important group of the species that returned to their home in the Blue Mountains of Australia this past weekend.
A celebration took place at Texas Children’s Hospital earlier today (Jan. 30, 2020), complete with animals from the Houston Zoo—including a screech owl and a rabbit.
