Scientists at San Diego Zoo Global’s Frozen Zoo® have achieved a major milestone in saving wildlife species: This unique collection of genetic material now contains 10,000 individual cell lines from more than 1,100 species and subspecies—some of them critically endangered. 

San Diego Zoo Global began the new year with an immense amount of gratitude. Just before the end of 2019, a tally revealed that the conservation organization’s volunteers logged a total of 2 million hours of service since the launch of the volunteer engagement program in 2009. 

A celebration took place at Texas Children’s Hospital earlier today (Jan. 30, 2020), complete with animals from the Houston Zoo—including a screech owl and a rabbit. 

As part of San Diego Zoo Global’s ongoing effort to raise awareness of the crisis facing wildlife in Australia due to catastrophic fires, the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park are inviting guests to a weekend-long Australia Day Celebration event—Saturday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020. 

San Diego Zoo Global and EDF Renewables announce an energy storage project at the Zoo that reduces the organization’s reliance on fossil fuels, supports clean energy and aligns with the City of San Diego’s sustainability goals.

In the last week,San Diego Zoo Global has raised more than a half-million dollars for Australian wildlife relief. This number includes the money raised through the attendance match on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, and on-site donations from members, staff and volunteers who came to the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park to donate money in person and through online donations.

As part of San Diego Zoo Global’s effort to mobilize resources and expertise to save species at risk due to the Australian wildfire crisis, the conservation organization has pledged to contribute an amount equal to the money raised in this Sunday’s(Jan.12, 2020) admissions at the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park directly toward wildlife relief efforts.
