STATEMENT

COVID-19 San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park Will Remain Open While Evaluating Changing COVID-19 Conditions

San Diego Zoo Global recognizes the gravity of the ever-changing COVID-19 situation and are working to do our part to protect the health and welfare of our community and the wildlife in our care, the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park will remain open with some changes in our operations.

In keeping with State, county, and health department recommendations regarding social distancing we are closing the 4D theatre and cancelling large capacity shows at the Zoo and Safari Park, increasing distancing between passengers at the Guided Bus Tour at the Zoo and the Africa Tram Safari at the Safari Park, and are not holding catered events of more than 250 people during this time. We will continue to monitor the ever-changing situation while maintaining close contact with government authorities, and we will provide additional communication if current conditions changes.

As outdoor facilities that care for a variety of animal species, staff members at the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park have for years been committed to maintaining the healthiest of environments for our animals and our guests, and at no time in our history has that long-standing experience and commitment proven more valuable than right now.

We would like to reassure the public that our standards and ongoing best practices are in place to provide our guests with a safe and healthy visit; and to ensure the well-being of those who work at our two parks. Hand-washing locations are offered at both parks and all areas are regularly cleaned to ensure proper hygiene safety.  During this period of heightened concern, we are increasing these options and providing additional opportunities for guests and staff to follow the recommended practices of regular handwashing and sanitizing.

We recognize that visiting the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is much more than experiencing wildlife up close, but also represents important family time, an escape from daily lives, an opportunity to enjoy rich educational experiences, a chance to get outdoors and enjoy fresh air and exercise, and an unparalleled opportunity to share the wonder of the natural world with family and friends.

San Diego Zoo Global is a family, and the safety of our guests, staff members, volunteers and animals are, and always will be, our highest priority.
