It takes quick action and collaboration to care for wildlife in crisis. We're uniquely qualified to help.
SAN DIEGO (May 14, 2024) – Today San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance hosted a “Toss the Tusk” event at the San Diego Zoo to raise awareness about the elephant poaching crisis and illegal elephant ivory trade. The event, organized by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Wildlife Trafficking Alliance (AZA WTA) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), encouraged the public to support long-term conservation efforts by surrendering unwanted elephant ivory items—including jewelry and art pieces—to ensure their availability does not drive demand. By removing elephant ivory products from the market, we can help keep these majestic animals alive for generations to come. This is the second year in a row that San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has hosted a Toss the Tusk event. In 2023, it was held at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
SAN DIEGO (Dec. 19, 2023) – For more than a decade, the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s entomology team has collaborated with Australia’s Melbourne Zoo to maintain populations of the critically endangered Lord Howe Island stick insect. For the first time in North America, visitors to the San Diego Zoo will have the opportunity to see these rare, nocturnal insects in a specialized habitat at the Zoo’s Wildlife Explorers Basecamp.
SAN DIEGO (Jan. 5, 2022) – San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is welcoming two new members to its Board of Trustees. Gary E. Knell, former chairman of National Geographic Partners; and T. ʻAulani Wilhelm, senior vice president for Oceans at Conservation International; are joining the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance board at the start of January, helping to direct the international nonprofit organization’s operational strategies while maintaining a sharp focus on its vital wildlife conservation mission.
San Diego Zoo Global added a new member to its executive team this week after naming David Miller as chief marketing officer (CMO). As CMO, Miller will lead the nonprofit conservation organization's marketing department in planning, crafting and executing communications, sales, membership, licensing and sponsorship initiatives.
