SAN DIEGO (March. 11, 2022) – Excitement filled the air at the San Diego Zoo today as a large crowd gathered to experience the newest and most anticipated opening in the nonprofit conservation organization’s history. Paul A. Baribault, president and chief executive officer of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, along with a group of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance team members, youth from across San Diego, and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, joined in a festive opening ceremony welcoming guest into the new Denny Sanford Wildlife Explorers Basecamp.
SAN DIEGO (October 29, 2021) – San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA) is expanding its mission to help all life thrive by cultivating some of its most important allies—the next generation. Opening in February 2022, the 3.2-acre Denny Sanford Wildlife Explorers Basecamp at the San Diego Zoo will be a place where guests and their families can enjoy an exciting experience that inspires empathy for all wildlife.

SAN DIEGO (April 30, 2021) – This morning at the San Diego Zoo’s native pollinator garden, Mayor Todd Gloria (center) presented a proclamation—declaring May 1, 2021 Monarch Day in the city of San Diego—to Paul Baribault, President and Chief Executive Officer of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (left), and Paige Howorth, the McKinney Family Director of Invertebrate Care and Conservation (right). The monarch butterfly is a recognizable wildlife icon in Southern California and plays an important part in the local ecosystem as a pollinator of native plants.
