Zoo InternQuest is a seven-week career exploration program for San Diego County high school juniors and seniors. Students have the unique opportunity to meet professionals working for the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and Institute for Conservation Research, learn about their jobs, and then blog about their experience online. Follow their adventures here on the Zoo’s website! Hello! My name is Helena, and I am a senior in high school. My best friend and I are co-publicity managers of ASB in which we help manage and promote events the school is putting on! One of the activities I spend a fair amount of time on is art! I love working with a variety of mediums, but my favorites would have to be acrylics and colored pencils. I primarily paint/draw abstract figures, but have recently started to expand into landscapes/seascapes and realism based pieces. I am also hoping to start sewing and altering clothing soon! A sewing machine recently came into my possession, and I am very excited to use it and develop another medium! One of my main interests are, obviously, animals! Reptiles and bugs are my first loves, but I am interested in all animals; a great deal of my time is consumed by researching what makes them distinct. However, the majority of my time is actually spent entranced in random topics I get distracted on. Usually those center around cryptozoology, pseudoscience, folklore, possible alien abductions, unexplained coincidences, and the “unknown”. I’m fascinated by the nooks and crannies of the universe that have yet to be explored, and hope to one day play a part in doing so. It’s incredible to think about what kind of creatures could be sitting right under our noses or what we could be missing within our own world. I’m very excited to be a part of Zoo InternQuest and cannot wait to learn from all the incredible individuals involved in the program! I hope you enjoy my blogs! Helena Fall Session 2018
