SAN DIEGO (May 23, 2023) – The 25 African penguin residents of the Dan and Vi McKinney Penguin Habitat at the San Diego Zoo are starting their Memorial Day weekend festivities early by doing what penguins do best—swimming. The endangered birds, along with schools of sardines that share their habitat, zipped to and fro through the salty waters of a vast 275,000-gallon pool before eating breakfast and relaxing on the rocky beach.
SAN DIEGO (May 11, 2023) – From Arabian oryx to Nubian ibex, to spotted turtles and Amur leopard cubs, the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park are brimming with babies! A spring baby boom provides guests to both the Zoo and Safari with the opportunity to see and learn about amazing wildlife including an okapi calf, a Matschie’s tree kangaroo and Przewalski’s horse at the Safari Park and Andean bear cubs, Lord Howe Island stick insects and Fijian iguanas at the Zoo.
SAN DIEGO (Aug. 18, 2022) – It’s that time of year again! The San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park are celebrating the fall season with a month full of fun for the whole family. Throughout the entire month of October, youths ages 11 and younger will receive free admission to both wildlife parks and can take part in special weekend activities, including unique entertainment, culinary treats and one-of-a-kind encounters with amazing wildlife.
SAN DIEGO (July 7, 2022) – San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has achieved a conservation milestone with the hatching of a North Island brown kiwi—the first time this species has hatched at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The male chick hatched on June 13, and brings valuable genetic diversity to the very small brown kiwi population in North America.

SAN DIEGO (Aug. 26, 2021) – This year, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is celebrating kids in a big way during October’s Kids Free Month, by offering amazingly fun activities and experiences for the whole family at the nonprofit conservation organization’s two wildlife parks.
In keeping with the latest guidance set forth from the Governor’s Office, the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park will reopen to the public on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, ending an almost two-month-long closure that began December 7, 2020.
