Zoo InternQuest is a seven-week career exploration program for San Diego County high school juniors and seniors. Students have the unique opportunity to meet professionals working for the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and Institute for Conservation Research, learn about their jobs, and then blog about their experience online. Follow their adventures here on the Zoo’s website!
My interests have always been art, animals and wildlife. Ever since I could walk, I’d run up to random people’s dogs with my little arms stretched out and a huge smile, ready to pet them. To be honest, the animal kingdom has always fascinated me. It has helped me open my mind and become curious about everything that I encounter and learn about in life. Being a very outspoken person, I’ve never been one to hesitate about standing up for what I believe is right. The San Diego Zoo and their mission for conservation and education coincide with many of my personal beliefs.
As a high school senior, most of my days are spent thinking about future plans, but also soaking up the last moments with the people I love. When I’m not at school, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and my large diverse family. Also, I am involved in dance, photography, writing, painting and drawing. Additionally, for the past two years, I’ve spent every Saturday volunteering at an animal shelter with barn animals.
I’m excited to begin the New Year as an intern for the San Diego Zoo. This opportunity is something beyond extraordinary, and I will forever be grateful for all the knowledge, experience and fun I will gain through this experience.
